Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 24, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how CalorieToday ("CalorieToday", "we", "us") handles information when you use the CalorieToday app and website (together, the "Service"). We built CalorieToday to be private by default — most of what makes this policy different from a typical app's is that your day-to-day tracking data mostly never leaves your device except to power the account/sync features you signed up for.
1. Data stored locally on your device
CalorieToday stores your data — food logs, weight entries, water intake, exercise entries, streaks and settings — locally in your browser, using standard browser storage technologies (localStorage and IndexedDB). This is always the primary copy of your data, whether or not you have an account. If you clear your browser data or uninstall the app without exporting first, this locally stored data will be lost unless it's also synced to your account (see below).
2. Your account, free trial, and cloud sync
Creating an account (email and password) is required to use CalorieToday beyond the initial setup questions — it's how your 7-day free trial is tracked and how your data can be backed up and synced across devices. Once you have an account, your tracking data is automatically synced to our backend, provided by Supabase, a third-party backend processor, so it's available if you sign in on another device. We use Supabase strictly to provide this account/sync functionality — we do not use it to build advertising profiles, and we do not sell data stored there.
If you subscribe to continue past your free trial, billing is handled entirely by Stripe, our third-party payment processor — we never see or store your full card number. We do store a Stripe-assigned customer and subscription identifier, associated with your account, so we know your subscription status.
3. How we use your data
Nutrition, weight, water, exercise and other health-related data you enter is used solely to power the Service's own features for you — showing your logs, calculating your calorie and macro targets, generating charts, and syncing across your devices. We do not sell this data, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
4. AI-powered features (plate-photo scanning and voice logging)
If you use plate-photo scanning or voice logging, the photo you take or the transcript of what you say is sent to Anthropic, a third-party AI provider, solely to identify food items, estimate portions/macros, or parse workout details. This is sent only when you actively use one of these specific features — not during ordinary manual logging — and the result is shown to you as an editable suggestion; nothing is added to your log automatically without your review and confirmation. We do not control Anthropic's own data retention practices for content submitted through their API; see Anthropic's privacy policy for details.
5. Cookies and advertising
We use cookies and local storage for core app functionality, such as remembering your preferences and keeping you signed in. CalorieToday may display advertising to help support the Service. Once our Google AdSense account is approved and ads are live, Google and its partners may use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this site and other sites, including for ad personalization. You can control ad personalization, and opt out where available, at Google's Ads Settings. Users in the EU, UK and California have additional rights regarding ad personalization and data processing, including the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information where applicable under laws such as the GDPR, UK GDPR, and CCPA/CPRA.
6. Exporting and deleting your data
You can export or permanently delete all of your data at any time from the app's Profile screen. Exporting gives you a copy of your data in a portable format; deleting removes your locally stored data immediately, and — if you have an account — also removes your data from our Supabase-hosted storage. If your trial has ended or your subscription has lapsed and your access is locked, your data is retained (not deleted) until you either subscribe or explicitly delete it.
7. Data we may collect about site and app usage
We may collect limited, aggregated technical information (such as approximate usage patterns or error logs) to help us maintain and improve the Service. This is not linked to your identity where you haven't created an account, and it is never combined with your personal health data to build a profile for sale.
8. Not medical advice
CalorieToday provides estimates and tools for general informational purposes only — including calorie, macro, BMR, TDEE and BMI calculations. Nothing in the Service constitutes medical, dietary, or health advice. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional before making decisions about your diet, exercise, or health, especially if you have a medical condition or are pregnant, nursing, or under 18.
9. Children's privacy
The Service is not intended for, and should not be used by, children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the Service or applicable law. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when we do. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
11. Contact us
